The WTFC U18 team delivered an impressive performance, winning 5-3 against Hythe in a Kent Youth League cup match. Notably, several U16 players, including Harry Taws and Oliver Clayton, made their debut and showcased their talent in the higher age group.
The match saw a mixture of seasoned U18 players and promising U16s, as the younger players adapted seamlessly to the faster pace and increased physicality of the U18 competition. Their confidence and composure on the ball were key factors in the team's dominant attacking play, leading to a memorable victory.
"After only one training session with the squad, it was good to see Harry and Ollie from the U16s stepping up to make their U18 Premier team debut in the cup. Seeing them integrate into the U18 squad so quickly and contribute to such an important win speaks volumes about their potential," said Adam Knoupe, manager of the U18 team. Both boys did exceptionally well adapting to the team's style of play, especially at a much quicker pace. This is exactly what our development system is all about—providing young players with opportunities to challenge themselves and grow, and today they did not disappoint. Seeing the encouragement and support the rest of the team showed the young lads was great. These young players will only get better working with a squad of this quality.
The win not only sees the U18 team through to the next round of the cup but also highlights the strength of the club's youth development program. By promoting young players to higher age groups, Whitstable Town Football Club continues to emphasise its commitment to nurturing homegrown talent and preparing them for the challenges of higher levels of football.
