Whitstable Town Football Club launched a new Walking Football Team. Aimed at players aged 50 and above, this will allow them to play the sport they love in an enjoyable and safe environment. Walking Football is a unique small-sided ball game similar in many respects to regular football but adapted for people of advancing years, which makes it such a great sport. The team will give the players significant health benefits from playing Walking Football every week, which will also offer substantial social and mental health benefits.
The Team played their first fixture on Friday night. Steve Aslett Manager said’… I want to start this report with a big thank you to everyone who helped get this team ready for our first game.
Come the second half, they made three substitutions, and we had the bare 7, so it was always going to be difficult, but again they came at us, and the experience showed. The final score was 10 - 0. One big positive was that none of our heads dropped, and we kept going to the very end.
In this first game, we have learned what we need to do to improve, and with every training session/game we have, I know this will happen.
Our next game will be against Margate on Monday 4 April kick-off time at 7 pm.
