K SPORTS 0 WHITSTABLE TOWN 4
SCEFL Premier Division

Marcel Nimani took charge of his second game as Whitstable manager on Monday evening and his team put in a good performance, beating K Sports 4-0 to make it two away wins in three days. Both teams passed the ball around neatly in the first half, but the only goal was scored by Whitstable midfielder Joe Nelder. The outcome was settled well before the final whistle as Whitstable quickly took control, adding further goals through Dean Grant and a double by Victor Aiyelabola, including one from the penalty spot after new signing Jeffrey Oredein was felled in the box.
There was just one change to the Whitstable team that had won at Stansfeld two days before, with a new signing from Herne Bay, Helge Orome, starting in place of Dominic Wynter-Stephens. Another new face, Jeffrey Oredein, was on the bench and he was joined by Josh Oliver who was returning from his one game ban. K Sports have had some wildly mixed results so far this season, knocking Isthmian League Whitehawk out of the FA Cup and scoring eight against Canterbury City, but losing 7-1 to Hollands and Blair and conceding four goals in three other league games. There was a significantly larger than average attendance of 143 to watch the game on the artificial surface at Cobdown.
Home goalkeeper Tom Wray was first tested by Dean Grant who saw his shot pushed away after he was played in by Nelder. Dan Eason was also called upon to see the ball around the post when Whitstable lost possession and an attempted clearance rebounded towards goal. A patient Whitstable build up ended with a foul by former Oysterman Luke Girt, but the delivery from the free kick was too high. Billy Lewins could only hit the side netting after finding some space in the box from a throw in. The first goal came in the 25th minute when the ball was passed forward by Orome, left by Grant and ran through to Nelder on the left of the area. He strode forward and shot low into the far corner. Whitstable were generally keeping the ball well, but a couple of mistakes just after the half hour mark led to a few dangerous moments and Jordan Sarfo had a shot saved by Eason, then sent another across goal, but just past the far post. On 40 minutes a long ball by George Crimmen bounced in the area and Girt got his head to it in front of Eason, but the goalkeeper pushed it to safety. Whitstable held a narrow 1-0 lead at the break.
Muhammed Cham was introduced early in the second half and combined with Grant to release Kyron Lightfoot whose shot was parried by Wray who recovered quickly to deny Victor Aiyelabola as he followed in. Richard Jimoh had his shot blocked after some good work by Lewins, who then lifted a free kick over the bar. Whitstable scored their second in the 55th minute when Jake Mackenzie won the ball and found Orome whose forward pass was collected by Grant who was just onside and shot low past Wray. Oredein replaced Lightfoot and was soon in the action, receiving a cross field pass from Aiyelabola before being brought down in the box by Samuel Boakye. Aiyelabola stroked the penalty into the bottom corner to extend Whitstable’s lead in the 62nd minute. The game was all but over, but there was an unusual incident when the referee felled Oredein in a collision that left the Whitstable substitute requiring treatment on the pitch. The scoring was concluded in the 69th minute when Whitstable put together a great move down the right. Mackenzie intercepted a throw near his own penalty area before finding Oredein, then Nelder and Cham moved the ball forward to Grant who picked out Aiyelabola in the box and he smashed the ball past Wray. After further changes, there were a couple of half chances for K Sports, but Whitstable saw the game out with plenty of composed possession to record their sixth away win of the season.
Whitstable have only managed one home success this season and will be hoping to improve on that when they entertain runaway leaders Erith and Belvedere, but it will be a stern test against a team that have won eleven out of twelve in the league.
